The Beasts of the Shadows

Cut Scene! Part 03

The scene opens up to tavern. A young dark-haired woman sits by herself at the bar sipping on her drink, the gnome bar keep in front of her polishing the glasses as is the typical routine at this hour. The tavern is lively with the sweet sound of the flute sweeping over everyone as a handsomely dressed man performs on the stage.

“Do you really think it’s safe to talk here?” The woman asks.

“Of course it is,” the gnome responds. “Have faith my friend. I would not ask you to meet here for nothing.”

The woman swirls her drink in its mug and sips it slowly. The music eventually winds down to a roar of applause and cheers.

“I thank you my kind kinfolk! But now if you can excuse me, I must let these pipes rest, drink, and be merry!”

With the sound of laughter and good cheers, the man makes his way down from the stage and to the bar. Motioning to an empty stool, “May I?”

The woman gestures for him to take a seat. After several minutes of bustling fans, the gnome takes two pans together and beings banging them.

“Alright! Alright! Show’s over! Let the poor boy rest a minute! A round on the house!”

With a satisfied jolly roar drinks are passed around and there is finally a moment for the two at the bar.

“The usual for me Ezra, please,” the man says to the gnome.

“Of course Marcus, anything for you,” she replies happily as she quickly runs to the back room.

“Ezra says you have similar goals to us,” Marcus says to the woman. “She says you’re trustworthy and I hope she’s right.”

Before the woman can respond, Ezra returns with a plate of food and a mug of ale. “There you go dear. Now, let me introduce you to my friend Janiven…”
